Behind the Scenes of “Coyote Pup”!

I’m so excited to share with you our newest story at the Storied Forest— an animal adventure tale called “Coyote Pup”! This tale is a story of found family, finding your own tribe, and choosing your own path, set amidst the magical environments of the Pacific Northwest. 

Living in the Presidio forest in San Francisco, my neighbors were coyotes and red-tailed hawks. When I was teaching there, all my students wanted to hear stories about these amazing creatures that called the forest their home. It turns out there weren’t many books about coyotes or red tailed hawks, so I began writing this story for them. My dear friend and illustrator of the “Night Owl and Early Bird” adventures, as well as “The Fairy Ring,” Xiao, added her whimsical magic to the words, and now we are excited to bring you the first chapter of “Coyote Pup”!

We hope you enjoy these early character sketches from Xiao’s pencil and paintbrush, and like a coyote pup stretching in the sun, that you enjoy the last warm days of the year as summer turns to autumn!
